Capabilities of men and women and equality in work sector

It is an undeniable fact that gender-based allocation of duties at employment sectors is a contentious matter for many years. While a section of society opines that gender must be used as one of the basic criteria in employee selection since it has commanding effects on productivity, others speculate that everyone is apt to any jobs regardless of their gender. Both these notions are explained in the following paragraphs.

On the one hand, society believe that in spite of having inherited talents in both men and women, the former section is more dominant with regards to physical and mental strength than the latter group. In other words, men are more fitted in the works which demands higher levels of both physical and emotional stability. To make it more clear, society consider that women are inferior to men in the aspects of emotional as well as physical powers which always leads to the preference of men over women in tough working environments such as mines and war fields. For instance, asymmetrical gender balance in army during first and second world wars show that the authorities chose more men rather than women to ensure dominance in battle fields. Hence, many of the employers believe that capabilities of different genders have accountable impacts on the outcomes of any activities.

On the other hand, both men and women have same effects on productivity and gender-based classification is immaterial in employment. In other words, specific intrinsic features of any genders do not bring special advantages to the result of any work. To explain it, both men and women are equally capable of ensuring the maximum possible output in any kind of tasks. For example, currently, men as well as women can be seen in any spheres of jobs or activities, especially women in the spearheads of governments and organizations show the decrease in disparity and equal recognition of both genders and their skills. Therefore, regardless of inbuilt characteristics, both men and women can choose any kind of careers and are capable to bring same levels of output in the assigned duties.

The above discussion clearly points out that there are valid points in each side. But, considering the physical and mental inferiority of women which is created by our society based on perceptions, many managers think that selection of employees without taking care of gender is illogical especially for jobs which demand high level of physical and mental strength. Hence, both genders can be given opportunities to prove themselves, so that the problem of disparity as well as inequality can be solved.
