Effects of too much emphasis on testing and increased number of exams on students as well as on teachers

Nowadays, huge amount of importance is given to evaluation practices. Whether conducting many exams are beneficial or not needs a second thought. Considering the deleterious aspects of exams, to a greater extent I feel, tests create a high amount of pressure on students and confine teachers around a particular syllabus.

First of all, too many examinations during the tenure of education create stress on students. In other words, youngsters are compelled to have very few leisure activities by competitive exams because they require more concentration as well as hard work. To make it more clear, society expect high range of score from students in exams which mountain pressure among children and force them to focus only on their nooks and study materials. For example, surge in the number of suicide cases among students during exams days replicate the immense amount of stress caused by tests. Therefore, exams usually pressurize young learners and create burden for them.

To add further, consecutive exams cause restrictions to teachers in their attempt to widen the horizons of knowledge of young minds. In other words, teachers are arm-twisted to concentrate only on a monotonous syllabus rather than imparting knowledge and information related to all the aspects of life. To explain it, modern exams are conducted based on particular subjects and topics and even the teachers are not given sufficient time to complete the portions in the subject before tests. For instance, special classes on holidays shows the problem of lack of time teachers face to complete the lecturing based on the given text books. Hence, teachers are constrained by the continuous exam pattern and not able to carry out a holistic approach in order to widen the ambit of knowledge of students.

On the contrary, exams help teachers and students to ensure improvements in their quality. In other words, tests allow both teachers and pupil to have continuous assessments. To illustrate it, self-awareness through exams and results helps not only students to analyse their current level but also teachers to modify their teaching style. To exemplify it, teachers and students always use new strategies after analysing the results of tests to outstrip in the next exams. So, exam is one of the key techniques to improve standard and calibre of both teachers and students.

In conclusion, based on the above discussion, it is clear that exams cause huge strain on young learners and control teachers with strict curriculum. So, if education department of the nation tries to make sure adequate gap between exams, definitely, it can be utilized in a progressive manner for ensuring positive growth among both teachers and students.
